Why Do Them?

Private lessons are a useful complement to our group classes.  You can use them to review steps that were recently covered, prepare for future group lessons, or to learn dances that are not currently being covered in our classes.  Because you're working one-on-one with a teacher, you'll be able to focus on what you want to work on, at your own pace.

Private Lessons are also perfect for wedding couples looking to make their first dance a beautiful moment on their special day.  Click Here to find out more!

Our Mission

At Hartford Ballroom, we take pride in having the most affordable and flexible private lessons in the area.

We don't offer packages or contracts; you only have to pay for the lesson(s) you arrange with one of our teachers.

You can book one appointment, more than one, or make it a weekly private lesson.  Want to make it a 2-hour session?  Sure!  Prefer something shorter like half an hour?  We can do that too!
The choice is yours.

Our Booking Policy

Please book appointments at least two days in advance.   Booking online requires a payment in advance.  Call/text the teacher by phone to book an appointment if you would prefer to pay in cash.  If you need to do a time slot that is not listed, contact the teacher directly to see if they're available at that time.  They might be able to accommodate you.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call, text, or e-mail the instructor as soon as possible.  We're okay with last-minute cancellations, so long as you tell us.

If you schedule a lesson, and you do not show up, you will be charged a penalty fee.
The penalty fee is 50% of the original lesson  charge.
We don't like penalizing people, so please give us a heads up if you can't make it!

What To Expect

Our mission is to make you feel comfortable and happy with your first dance.  Your instructor will work with your schedule and whatever song you have chosen for yourselves.   They will also adapt their lesson plan to your comfort level and your specific goals regarding your first dance.  You get to decide what your dance looks like, be it just a few spins and a dip, a repeatable routine that is easy to remember, or a full choreography with lifts.  Regardless of what you want, we will strive to bring your vision to life.

At the beginning of your first lesson, your instructor will ask you a few questions regarding your wedding and your goals.  Here are some of the questions they might ask on the first day:
  1. When is the wedding (or when do you expect your wedding date to be)?
  2. What is your song going to be?  If you haven't selected one yet, what options have you narrowed it down to?  Do you need us to edit the song or create a song mashup?
  3. How do you envision your wedding dance?  Do you want it fully choreographed or do you want just a rough routine that is easy to remember?  Would you rather be able to improvise on your own?  Do you see yourself doing any lifts in your dance?
  4. What is the floor plan at your reception?  What is the floor size?  What kind of floor is it?
  5. Do you have a picture of the wedding dress?  Do you know what kind of shoes you will both be wearing?  Does your suit or dress restrict your mobility in any way?

Once the instructor has a better understanding of what you want, they can start teaching you how to dance to your song.  The number of lessons you will need depends on how much time you have before your wedding, how complicated or simple you want your dance to be, and how much you practice at home (we'll give you a chance to videorecord what you've learned so you can practice).

The instructor will also help you prepare for any hiccups that might occur during your dance on the day of the wedding.  Some of these preparations include practicing in your wedding shoes, practicing in a long annoying dress or skirt, and practicing on a floor space that is restricted to the size of your reception's dance floor.

We love making weddings special and we can't wait to work with you!
